Unless they are positive they seem to get very offended.
Although they are considered modest people, lowering he standing of themselves and family members, they always talk up their country. If you comment on the fairly polluted oceans surrounding the country, the fact that Japanese products, like Sony and Toyota, out source the majority of their parts to china and their quality has drastically gone down over the last 10years, note the obvious racism that exists or shocking foreign policy like refusing to make their own army - but requesting acceptance to the UN or their illegal whaling in other countries waters... they wont want to discuss these things with you.

These aren't things i go around attacking Japanese people with, but a few times discussion has gently lead to one of these topics but it hasn't ended well - and i was sure to be very soft about it. On the flip side, Japanese people can be the first to criticize your own country when visiting, saying japan is a more beautiful place, Japans beef tastes better (they dont realize their beef is imported) etc... sigh...

My new co-worker that just started work in our off...

My new co-worker that just started work in our office 3 days ago has so far covered: Japanese suicides, politics, religion, his problems. He sits right next to me and I am very busy so I don't want to discuss this w//someoone I don't know. Also, he also talks very negatively about things and pushes his values onto you. If you have some opinion he quickly dismisses it and tells you that you're wrong. I don't know what to do. I already complained to the manager about it.
